With just a few days until the transfer deadline, Crystal Palace have only made one new signing for the first-team in the shape of Cenk Tosun, who arrived on loan from Everton.
Roy Hodgson’s side have, however, been linked with a whole host of names this month who would provide the south Londoners with some much-needed depth in positions that either don’t have many bodies in, or players who aren’t effective enough in.
One of those names is West Brom full-back Nathan Ferguson. The 19-year-old will be out of contract at the Hawthorns in the summer and is currently free to talk about a pre-contract with foreign clubs, although The Evening Standard report that Palace are targeting a late move for the teenager to bolster their right-back department.
Another defender reportedly in the Eagles’ sights is Norwich left-back Jamal Lewis. Football Insider reveal that talks are at an advanced stage between the two clubs over the 22-year-old’s signature.
Further up the field, AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piątek has been linked with a move to Palace while Everton also attempt to capture his services, according to The Sunday Mirror (print edition, page 66, January 19th).
Elsewhere, Dalian Yifang attacker Yannick Carrasco is also on the Eagles’ radar as an option to bolster their attack.
Let’s see how Hodgson could incorporate these four players into his XI…
Just for the record, we are by no means saying that these four targets would immediately push Joel Ward, Patrick van Aanholt, Jordan Ayew and Cenk Tosun out of the starting XI – this is merely to see how Hodgson could get them involved should they sign for the club.
As you can see, Ferguson has been deployed in the right-back slot, although in truth, he could also play on the left seeing as he has made 11 appearances on that side of defence this term, as well as nine on the right.
Lewis lines up at left-back in our XI, where he has made 15 appearances for the Canaries this season under Daniel Farke.
Further up the field, Carrasco – who has scored an impressive 17 goals and notched seven assists this term – would be deployed on the left as he has appeared 19 times in attacking positions on that side of the field, and to good effect given his excellent output.
In Piatek’s case, the Pole could lead the line in Hodgson’s preferred formation of 4-3-3, according to Transfermarkt.
Call yourself a Premier League expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?
The 24-year-old has only scored four Serie A goals in 18 outings this term, although he has proven how deadly he can be with 19 goals in 21 appearances for his former side Genoa.
Should these four men make the move to Selhurst Park, then here is how Hodgson can deploy them most effectively.
