Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react to the performance of Abdoulaye Doucoure following Watford’s 1-1 draw against Brighton on Saturday. The Frenchman – who was believed to be of interest to the Gunners back in 2018 after he confirmed interest from Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal to Telefoot – made his 25th Premier League start of the campaign at the Amex Stadium, and marked it with a fine strike to open the scoring.
Doucoure picked the ball up close to the halfway line before driving at the Seagulls’ backline, where he then cut inside and thumped the ball past Mat Ryan – it truly was a breathtaking strike.
It was the 27-year-old’s fourth Premier League goal of the season, and also one that appears to have got the Arsenal fans on Twitter talking about him and what he could offer them.
The former Rennes man was the subject of a £32m bid from Everton back in the summer, while French giants Paris Saint-Germain were also believed to have been keen on him in the past.
Let’s see what the Arsenal fans on Twitter have been saying about Watford’s No.16…
To kick off the reaction, @gunnerblog said that they are a “huge fan” of seeing Doucoure transition from a defensive midfielder into an attacking midfielder, just like former Arsenal man Julio Baptista did while he was at Sevilla.
Then, @kay_sesen said that they don’t understand why the Frenchman isn’t already an Arsenal player, branding him as a “good fit” for the club.
Elsewhere, @GONDOANDY said that Doucoure “needs to be a Gunner at all costs next season” whereas Jason simply asked for the powerful midfielder to be a summer addition for the north Londoners.
Lastly, these two supporters also had some thoughts on Doucoure.
One fan named Ryan compared him to Yaya Toure after watching his goal, earmarking it as similar to the way in which the Ivorian used to surge up the pitch and finish.
Someone’s got to own them: Who do these incredibly unwanted PL records belong to?
@OzilVision11 then said that Doucoure would’ve walked into the Gunners’ midfield last season and would also walk into it again this term – this fan then said that there are “literally no excuses” for the club not to sign two top midfield players in the summer.Â
